FAQ

  • The aim of treatment is the resolution of symptoms. A six month trial, including regular consultations with your doctor is recommended.

  • The recommended starting dose for AndroFeme®1 is 0.5mL (5mg) of cream, which can be increased to 1mL (10mg) daily. Your individual daily dose may vary from this based on your discussions with your doctor and their clinical assessment. Use the provided applicator, marked in 0.25 mL increments, for precise dosing. A 6-month trial is advised to determine the correct dose and assess symptom improvement. Apply the cream to clean, dry skin on the upper thigh or buttock, massaging until absorbed, which typically takes about 30 seconds. Wash hands and cover the area with clothing after application to prevent skin-to-skin transfer to others.

  • To measure the correct dose of cream:

    • Gently squeeze the base of the AndroFeme®1 tube until cream reaches the open nozzle of the tube.

    • Insert the tip of the applicator into  the open nozzle of AndroFeme®1 cream so that the nozzle and the shoulder of the applicator are in contact.

    • Invert the tube and the applicator  so the cream will flow with gravity when squeezed.

    • Carefully squeeze the base of the AndroFeme®1 tube and at the same time slowly  withdraw the red plunger of the applicator. The cream will flow into the barrel of the applicator. Do not try to  squeeze the cream into the syringe.

    • Fill the applicator to the required  dose. For example: a 0.5 mL dose of AndroFeme®1 (5 mg  testosterone) needs the flat part of the plunger level with the 0.5 mL mark.

    • If there are any air bubbles in the measured dose, fill slightly past the required dose mark then depress the plunger so that the excess cream flows back into the tube. Stop at the required dose mark.

    • Remove the applicator from the  nozzle of the tube and replace the cap firmly on the tube.

You can watch a demonstration video on how to use the applicator HERE

  • Before initiating AndroFeme® 1, your doctor will assess your baseline testosterone and SHBG levels. It is recommended to use the same lab for all tests. Follow up tests at 3-6 weeks, 12 weeks and 6 months will help fine-tune the dosage and monitor for side effects.

  • AndroFeme® 1 is intended for postmenopausal women diagnosed with HSDD, after other modifiable factors have been addressed. It is not suitable for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or of reproductive age without effective contraception.

  • AndroFeme®1 is a clinically tested testosterone cream designed specifically for women. Its use should always be based on a healthcare provider’s assessment and supported by regular monitoring to ensure it remains well-tolerated and effective.

Do not use if you have ever had an allergic reaction to testosterone, tree nuts (almond oil) or any of the ingredients listed in the Consumer Medicine Information (CMI) sheet found in the AndroFeme® 1 box or available at www.medsafe.govt.nz

    Do not use AndroFeme®1 if:

    • You have or have had breast cancer or any other cancer that your doctor has described as being caused or stimulated by androgen

    • You still menstruate, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are a child.

Talk to your doctor if you have any other medical conditions, take any other medications, or are pregnant.

  • A 50mL tube will provide 100 days of therapy using the recommended 0.5mL of daily starting dose.

  • If an adult or child comes into contact with AndroFeme®1, thoroughly wash the area of skin exposed to the cream with soap and water immediately.

  • If you miss your dose at the usual time, apply your dose as soon as you remember and continue to apply as you would normally. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and apply your next dose when you are meant to. Do not apply a double dose to make up for the dose you missed.

  • Avoid application of perfume, deodorant or moisturising creams/gels on the area of application because this may interfere with absorption of AndroFeme®1. It is also recommend to avoid swimming or showering until at least four hours after application of AndroFeme®1.

  • All medicines can have side effects. If you do experience any side effects, most of them are minor and temporary. However, some side effects may need medical attention. You should speak to your doctor if you would like further information about potential side effects.

During treatment, some women may notice less serious side effects, such as acne, increased body hair particularly on the face, loss or thinning of head hair or voice changes. More serious effects are less common but can include nausea and vomiting, headaches, weight gain, or unusual bleeding. Rarely, allergic reactions may occur. If you have any concerns, or notice anything that worries you, speak to your doctor straight away.
